Skin Layers
Understanding different layers of skin
is important for natural skin care. There are many
different skin layers and each skin layer needs to be treated
differently. By examining layers of skin, you can devise the
best natural skin care program and system to suit your type of
skin. Skin layers are affected by outside environmental
conditions as well as diseases and illnesses. Knowing the
effects each environmental or illness condition on your skin
layers can help minimize stress on your skin. Different layers
of skin have their own ecosystem with complex chemical
processes. New cells are formed constantly, protein collagen
are built. These cells move towards the surface of the skin. At
the outermost surface skin layer, the Epidermis, these cells
are discarded. This happens every 14-28 days.
What are the different layers of skin?

See diagram of skin layers for
more information on different layers of skin. The three
different skin layers are:
-
The Epidermis
-
The Dermis
-
The Subcutaneous Layer
New skin cells are formed in the
Subcutaneous layer of skin and gradually move upwards through
the Dermis to the Epidermis where dead cells are discarded. The
Epidermis is the skin layer you see everyday. The Dermis is the
skin layer with most happenings such as nerve endings, hair
follicles, and sweat glands.
